Arnab spent a couple of days at the IFM Deakin University in Geelong to do quench dilatometry of two modern HSLA steels he has cooked. Many thanks to Drs Thomas Dorin and Alireza Vahid for looking after him so magnificently. Arnab too enjoyed a weekend exploring the Melbourne foodie culture. He will be back.

Engineering microstructures enjoyed a joint Christmas party with friends and collaborators from The University of Sydney. We had an Aussie BBQ on a nice sunny day in Ewen Park, and a good combination of soccer/footy/cricket activities!
Congratulations to our Honour’s student Liam Stephenson for being awarded the second prize at the Materials Australia NSW branch undergrad thesis competition 2019! He competed against hand-picked students materials science & engineering students from all across NSW. His thesis is on variant selection in Ti alloys during additive manufacuring. Very well deserved!!
Congratulations to Carina Ledermueller for submitting her PhD thesis! Great work and very well done! Carina’s PhD was on thermo-mechanical processing of HSLA steels, check out some of her papers on our publications page.
Prof. Chris Berndt, a distinguished professor at Swinburne University of Technology gave a talk on ‘Nanostructured Thermal Barrier Coatings: Challenges and Opportunities’ in our school. We enjoyed a special group meeting in the afternoon where our junior researcher had an opportunity to pitch their projects.
